EBT :. Golden State Advantage Card
Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT, is a new way to get Food Stamp and
cash benefits. Instead of issuing benefits to customers with paper checks
and Food Coupons, they will receive a plastic card, called the Golden State
Advantage card, that can be used at ATMs and Point of Sale or POS machines
in grocery stores, banks, gas stations, convenience stores, etc. to buy
food and get their cash benefits.
Federal law requires counties to switch to EBT for Food Stamps. Many states
are already issuing Food Stamps using EBT.
EBT modernizes the use of Food Stamps and helps to reduce the stigma attached
to purchases made with paper coupons.
EBT also increases security and reliability of benefits.
In addition to Food Stamps, cash benefits for CalWORKs, Refugee Cash Assistance,
Cash Assistance Payments to Immigrants (CAPI), and General Assistance will
be issued using EBT in Alameda County.
