Alameda is one of California's most diverse counties. This social and cultural diversity contributes to the richness of the community.

Alameda County is home to 1.5 million people and covers 738 square miles. Approximately 179,000 people receive services from the Alameda County Social Services Agency. The City of Oakland is the county's largest major metropolitan area.
